Public Health Dentistry
The Department of Public Health Dentistry focuses on oral health-related community diagnosis, assessing needs, and developing strategies to deliver essential oral health services to underserved populations. Through Satellite Clinics and Mobile Dental Clinics, the department provides preventive, promotive, and curative care, reaching rural and underprivileged areas. In addition to routine care, the department leads Tobacco Cessation initiatives and engages in innovative health education programs, including oral health awareness campaigns through museum, videos, skits, and activities. Special efforts are made to support vulnerable groups, such as palliative care patients and children with special needs, ensuring access to quality oral health services for all.

Oral Medicine & Radiology
Oral Medicine is the branch of dentistry, which fosters a scientific understanding between the fields of dentistry and medicine. Not only does it concentrate on diagnosis of oral diseases and their treatment, but also has opened new avenues for research.

Oral Pathology & Microbiology
Oral Pathology and Microbiology is a branch of Dentistry representing the confluence of basic science and clinical dentistry. Being a department that primarily focuses on building a strong academic foundation of basic sciences which includes Dental anatomy, Oral Histology, General Embryology, Oral Pathology and Forensic Odontology, the scope of the department extends forward to the diagnosis of oral and maxillofacial pathologies and forensic analysis also.
The department performs biochemical investigations (routine blood examination &blood sugar), Fine needle aspiration cytology, serological tests (HBsAg, HCV, HIV), candid smear examination, tissue processing and reporting of histopathological specimens, examination and reporting of Forensic odontology cases. The department plays a major role in cancer detection which is one among the major global health concerns and many patients from rural areas are getting benefited with the service at affordable rates.

Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry
Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry is a subject that deals with the care and treatment of children’s teeth. It is thus, an age defined specialty. It involves, but is not limited to: conselling parents regarding diet, prevention and management of dental caries, pediatric endodontics, management of traumatic injuries of teeth, preventive and interceptive orthodontics, cosmetic dental treatment using latest technology, managing gingival and periodontal diseases in infants, children and adolescents including those with special health care needs.

Periodontics
The Department of Periodontology and Oral Implantology offers comprehensive training of undergraduates in academics, patient care and research. Our department deals with the etiology, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of the periodontium as well as interdisciplinary case management.
Treatment facilities range from oral prophylaxis, minor surgical procedures like frenectomy, gingivectomy, flap surgery, perio regenerative procedures, periodontal plastic surgical procedures and implant surgeries. The department is well equipped with autoclaved instruments and modern equipments like soft tissue diode laser, electrocautery, centrifuge for obtaining high quality PRF and implant surgical kit with physiodispener. The department has excellent patient flow, well equipped clinics and amiable staff who are frequently trained and updated in newer technologies.

Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics
The speciality of conservative dentistry and Endodontics has a pivotal role in modern dental education and practice. In GDC Alappuzha the department of conservative dentistry and Endodontics is run by a well-qualified and dedicated team led by a professor and supported by two associate professors, two assistant professors, senior residents and dental auxiliary staff. The department is committed to teaching BDS students to restore form function and aesthetics of decayed / traumatized teeth and root canal treatment thereby improving the quality of life of people. The department is equipped with the all-model equipment and provides the state of the art dental care emphasizing patient comfort and educating the larger public regarding the importance of dental and oral health. The department works as a team closely with other dental speciality departments to provide comprehensive Dental care helping patients maintain functional dentition and healthy smiles.

Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
The department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery maintains 2 outpatient departments, one in Government Dental College Alappuzha and the other at T D Medical college, Vandanam. We also have a 24-hour causality in medical college campus.
Department treat patients suffering from Road traffic accidents, falls, workplace injuries and assaults, thus trauma cases form a major bulk of our work. In addition to this, treatment is provided to patients with congenital dentofacial deformities, benign pathologies like cysts & tumours. All these procedures are operated under general anaesthesia in T D Medical College campus, regularly once in a week. Trauma patients needing immediate attention are operated in the emergency theatre.
Dentoalveolar surgeries, biopsies and placements of dental implants are also performed under local anaesthesia in department minor operation theatre.

Orthodontics
The department of orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics aims in the diagnosis and treatment of malocclusion and dentofacial deformities. We undertake training of undergraduate students in the field of preventive, interceptive and corrective orthodontics by conducting preclinical laboratory sessions, clinical diagnosis of dentofacial complex in particular and body in general and management of the same. Our department faculty also performs diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of pediatric and adult patients in correcting mal alignment and dento facial skeletal anomalies by using various removable, orthopedic, functional and fixed orthodontic appliances. We also involve in the multidisciplinary management of various complex cases by conducting discussion with various disciplines in order to provide accurate therapy for each patient.

Prosthodontics is a specialized branch of dentistry, dedicated in making of dental prosthesis (artificial teeth) for missing or damaged teeth and its associated oral tissues enhancing the beauty and function of your smile. Proper diagnose & treatment planning is the key to the success in fabrication of dental prosthesis which improve patient’s overall general health, masticatory function, comfort, confidence level & pleasing appearance.
Our prosthodontic department aims in providing treatments like fabrication of “Removable Dentures, Crowns, Bridges, Full mouth rehabilitation, Implants” for the replacement of missing tooth structures & “Maxillofacial Prosthesis” for defects of head and neck due to cancer surgeries, developmental disturbances or trauma.
The motto of the department is to treat every patient with empathy and care who require comprehensive and advanced prosthetic treatments. Specializing in geriatric dental care, our goal is to deliver exceptional services tailored to the unique needs of seniors. Quality education given, sharpens the professional skills of interns & undergraduates to bring out the best expertise in dentistry. Faculty of prosthodontics provide guidance in preclinical, clinical, Phantom lab demonstrations and theory classes for students from the first day to the final day of their BDS curriculum.
